Petbarn Adoption Centres

RSPCA NSW rehomes a range of adorable animals, including cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more! Thanks to our partnership with Petbarn, you can adopt some of our animals from select Petbarn Adoption Centres.

As a result of our ongoing partnership with more than 30 Petbarn centres, you can adopt our shelter stars from more locations than ever before.

Our partnership with Petbarn plays an integral role in uniting prospective pet guardians with the animal of their dreams. In the last financial year alone, more than 900 of our animals were adopted from Petbarn stores – that’s more than 900 Rescuoodles in loving forever homes!

Shelters and Adoption Centre

RSPCA NSW operates five dedicated shelters and adoption centres, all dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable animals. We provide a sanctuary for thousands of animals every year and offer additional advice and support for animal guardians seeking aid. All RSPCA NSW shelters promote, support, and facilitate adoptions, ensuring a brighter future for animals in need.

Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centres

Behaviour and rehabilitation centres serve as a hub for supporting animals experiencing significant behaviour challenges. By creating a calm and quiet environment that encourages positive training experiences, we’re helping our animals prepare for life in a happy and stable home.

With state-of-the-art equipment and configurable, flexible spaces, our Education Centre serves as a hub for our animal-loving community.

By addressing both people and animals’ needs, our support services aim to prevent animal cruelty before it can occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of requirements must I meet when adopting a companion animal?

When deciding whether to adopt an animal companion of your own, remember to first consider the potential cost of caring for a pet. While there are no universal requirements when adopting a forever friend, different animals will require suitable homes to meet their behavioural or breed-dependent needs. As such, it’s important to ensure your lifestyle and living situation can accommodate for an animal companion.

When you’ve finally decided to adopt, don’t forget to arrive at our facilities with a photographic identity document, complete with your name and current address. If you already have a dog, you may need bring them in for a meet and greet to ensure they’ll get along with the newest member of the family.

Whether you’re saving adoption for later or simply holding off on a new forever friend, there are so many ways to lend a hand if you’re looking to support animals in need.

Becoming a foster carer is such a rewarding experience. If you’re unsure about adopting but looking to personally assist our animals, consider joining our wonderful team of incredible foster carers today!

Consider supporting our shelters and adoption centres by providing our shelter stars with essential animal supplies. Our shelters keep a wish list of items such as bedding, towels, and toys – items like these are always in need and greatly appreciated by our animals.

You could also volunteer or donate directly to our animals. Even something as simple as purchasing RSPCA Pet Insurance can go a long way, as a portion of your fee contributes directly to the care of animals across NSW.

Foster carers offer our animals a comforting home environment in addition to a family dynamic that our shelters simply aren’t able to provide. At any one time, animals in foster homes can account for up to 21% of all the animals in our care. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of more than 900 foster carers, we help thousands of animals:

  • Meet potential adopters outside the shelter environment
  • Recover from surgery or illness in a stress-free, family setting
  • Care for their young ones and litters
  • Enjoy some solitude or time away from the bustle of the shelter environment

Foster care can also ready our animals for the dynamic of a family situation. The more we learn about their behaviour in a predictable family setting, the easier it is for our staff to ensure we find their perfect match!

If you’re not looking to adopt just yet, you can still give the gift of a foster home to an animal in need. Consider lending a helping hand and become an RSPCA NSW foster carer today!
