Generally, leg rings are not recommended for pet birds because they can lead to injuries and other problems.

Instead, take your bird to the veterinarian to be microchipped. The microchip is usually implanted in the breast muscle. Your veterinarian will use a light general anaesthetic, but the procedure doesn’t usually take long. You can then register your bird’s unique microchip number on a registry, such as the Australasian Animal Registry. That way, if your bird becomes lost, she can be taken to an animal shelter, pound or veterinary clinic to be scanned and reunited with you.
