Solicitor Information

Leaving a gift in their Will is one of the most meaningful and lasting ways your client can support the animals of RSPCA NSW.

Gifts left in Wills not only care for the animals who come through our doors every year, they also help fund our education programs, community programs, and state-wide veterinary clinics.

Your client can be assured that their gift, no matter the size, will make a vital difference to animals in need and help create a kinder, better world for them.

Suggested Wording for Wills

We suggest the following wording be used in the drafting of your clients Will. Please ensure the wording includes RSPCA NSW.

I, _____________________, give and bequeath to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, New South Wales (‘RSPCA NSW’), of 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, NSW, 2199 (ABN 87 000 001 641) for the use and general purposes of the RSPCA:

  1. the residue (or % of the residue) of my estate
  1. a % of my estate
  1. a sum of $ <insert amount> free of all death and estate duties.

I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or a Proper Officer of the Society authorised to act on his/her behalf shall be sufficient discharge to my executors/trustees.

Type of gifts that can be left to RSPCA NSW

There are several different ways your client can include RSPCA NSW in their Will.

  • Residual gift: After providing for loved ones, leave the whole or a percentage of the remaining estate. This is the most effective way to support the animals.
  • Percentage gift: A percentage of the total estate, allowing the gift to maximise its value as the estate matures.
  • Specific gift: A fixed sum of money or assets, including property, investments, or shares.

If your client has any specific questions about how their gift can be used, please contact our Gifts in Wills team.

Does your client have pets?

Pets are cherished family members, and it’s important to safeguard their future. Having a plan in place provides great peace of mind and secures the future wellbeing of a pet should its owner pass away or enter palliative care. Family and friends are always the best option, but for some, that option is not available; that’s where RSPCA NSW can help. The Home Ever After program (HEA) is a trusted, tailor-made future care plan for beloved pets, should they ever need it.

There is no charge during your client’s lifetime, this program is free for those animal lovers who kindly leave a gift in their Will to RSPCA NSW to help continue this and other life-saving programs.

If your client has pets, please let them know about this program. More information can be found here; alternatively, our Home Ever After coordinators can be contacted on 02 9782 4419 or by email at hea@rspcansw.org.au

Should my client tell you about their Gift?

We respect your client’s privacy however if they are comfortable to let us know, we would be grateful for the opportunity to say thank you, as well as include them in special invitations and events, and keep them updated on our work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should my client let RSPCA NSW know if they have made them a beneficiary in their Will?

If they are comfortable reaching out, please encourage them to let us know they’ve made us a beneficiary in their Will. This gives us the chance to express our gratitude, keep them up to date with news and stories, and involve them and their family in relevant special events throughout the year.

Because it is increasingly common for Wills in NSW to be contested, any intentions voiced during their lifetime also help support their choices, should they ever be questioned after their passing.  Your client can reach us via email at wills@rspcansw.org.au or via phone on (02) 9782 4419 to clarify their intentions regarding their gift.
