Since September, our shelters have been increasingly inundated with cats and kittens daily, and our Sydney site has officially reached capacity. Our Sydney Adoption Centre provides care, shelter and veterinary treatment to abandoned, injured, neglected and sick animals. Animals arriving at shelters come from a variety of sources, including those: handed in as an injured or sick stray seized by an inspector under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 surrendered by an owner Located in Yagoona, the Sydney Adoption Centre is the largest animal shelter in NSW. We offer a wide range of services, programs and training opportunities, including student placements, volunteer opportunities, behaviour consultations and advice. There is also a pet retail shop and an extensive Foster Care program. Saturday – Sunday: Open until 6.00pm for emergencies and phone enquiries. Shelter FAQsDo you accept stray animals? Our shelters do not have the means to accept uninjured, stray animals. If you find an uninjured, stray animal, you will be referred to your local council pound. Where can I see all animals available for adoption? You can see all animals available for adoption here. Why do you charge adoption fees? Animals available for adoption have undergone a comprehensive veterinary check and have undergone any other veterinary treatment and rehabilitation necessary. The adoption fee helps cover part of these costs and allows RSPCA NSW to continue caring for animals in need. Is there only one shelter in Sydney? Yes, there is only one shelter in Sydney located at Yagoona. What to do if you find stray kittens If you have found stray kittens, we can assist you in caring for them at home until we are able to bring them into our care. To support you, we will provide everything you need, delivered directly to your door. Kitten Care Package Contents: Litter tray Food Litter Bedding Bowls Toys Steps to Take if You Have Found Kittens: Check for the mother: Newborn kittens are entirely dependent on their mother for survival. If the mother is not present, they will require constant human care. For more information on what to do if you find kittens, check out our “what to do if you find kittens” page Wait for the mother to return: Monitor the situation for 3–6 hours. If the mother does not return, contact us at 9770 7555 (option 4). We will provide guidance on caring for the kittens, arrange for a care package to be delivered to your address, and add your details to our kitten waitlist.
