Cailin’s story

“There’s a dog lying on the ground.”

RSPCA NSW Inspector Natalie moved fast to get to a property in South Western Sydney after a call from a Council Ranger. Four big breed dogs had turned on a fifth being kept in a backyard – a gentle, sweet-natured Samoyed.

The Council Ranger couldn’t gain access, but Inspector Natalie climbed a wall and jumped down. As she discovered, the dog attack left three-year-old Cailin lifeless. She had to be carried out on a stretcher.

It was getting late, and Inspector Natalie knew she needed to get Cailin to the shelter, where a vet could examine her.

Cailin was in shock after the attack. Her body was closing down, and we didn’t know if she’d survive the night. She was transferred to a 24-hour facility, where she spent three days.

Cailin could only come back when her condition was stable. With open wounds all over her body, she was then at risk of sepsis.

An animal like Cailin has a long road ahead to heal and recover. Please will you help provide lifesaving vet treatment and ongoing care?

Today, Cailin is unrecognisable as the dog we rescued. She’s healthy. Her beautiful coat has grown back, and she’s loved.

Her new owner Anne says Cailin is a ‘ray of sunshine’. Animals can brighten up the darkest moments with their love, warmth and companionship.

With a gift today, you can reach them in their darkest moment, and help save their life.
