Poorly Drawn Pets Volunteer FAQs

GD RSPCA 23 0216 Poorly Drawn Pets v3 01 1

When does Poorly Drawn Pets start?
Poorly Drawn Pets 2025 kicks off on the 30th of January. More details will be provided closer to the event.

I’m not great at drawing. Can I still join?
Yes, of course! Poorly Drawn Pets isn’t about skill, but enthusiasm. We welcome anyone who wants to participate.

Can kids participate?
Absolutely! We encourage participation from kids and families of all ages. When signing up, please use your name and details, and let us know the “artist’s” name.

How many portraits do I need to draw? / How long does it go for?
Volunteers are asked to commit to completing a minimum of 5 portraits over the nine-day period (30th January – 7th February). If you can’t meet this number, let us know how many you can complete by emailing supportercare@rspcansw.org.au.

Do I need to mail/post the completed portraits?
No, you don’t need to mail/post the portraits. You’ll upload photos of your artwork to an online platform. Instructions for this will be shared closer to the event. If you’d like to send the original artwork, we can help you get in contact with the donor.

Do I have to draw? / Can I use AI?
Drawing isn’t mandatory. You can paint or complete the portrait digitally. We only ask that you please avoid using AI or filters as authenticity is key.

What kind of materials do I need to participate?
You can use any art supplies like pencils, markers, paints, or digital tools. You’ll also need a phone to take photos of your artwork and access to a computer to upload them to the platform (Trello) or email them to our team.

How will I receive the photos of the pets to draw?
Images will be provided through an online platform called Trello. You’ll receive an email with setup instructions before the event. If you’re unable to use Trello, we can email you the photos as an alternative.

What if I can’t use Trello?
If Trello isn’t an option for you, let us know. We can email you a couple of images, and you can send the completed portraits back as attachments. Email supportercare@rspcansw.org.au for assistance.

What happens if I can’t complete my assigned portraits?
If you’re unable to complete your portraits, please email supportercare@rspcansw.org.au as soon as possible so we can reassign them to another volunteer.

Can I draw more than the minimum 5 portraits?
Yes, of course! Completing more than the minimum 5 portraits is a big help, especially since some volunteers may not be able to meet the base number.

Can I share my artwork on social media?
Yes! Please share your artwork (but not the original photo) on social media and tag us @RSPCANSW to help spread the word and raise more funds for our furry friends.

Can you tag my artwork on social media?
Unfortunately, we can’t tag your artwork as the campaign is fast-paced. However, you’re welcome to post your artwork on your own socials, ensuring you don’t share the original photo.

We hope this information helps!
