No matter their background or appearance, we believe that each of our animals will bring oodles of laughter and love to every compassionate pet owner willing to open their heart and home.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adopt an animal from RSPCA NSW?

RSPCA NSW rehomes a range of rare Rescuoodles, the newest breed of one-of-a-kind pets stealing hearts across the state! We can help find your perfect friend at one of our shelters and adoption centres, so consider reaching out to our teams to begin your adoption journey today!

We also work alongside partners like Petbarn to find homes for all our animals. Thanks to our ongoing partnership with more than 30 Petbarn stores, you can adopt RSPCA NSW animals from more locations than ever before.

When you’re ready to adopt, don’t forget that you’ll be required to present a photographic identity document, complete with your name and current address. If you already have a dog, you may need bring them in for a meet and greet to ensure they’ll get along with the newest member of the family.

Please note that although we update our online lists of available animals every day, there is always a chance that an animal you are interested in will have found another loving home before your arrival at our facilities.

After every canine or feline adoption, we promptly reach out to new pet parents to offer support via phone or email, offering advice, referrals to our teams, or access to additional helpful resources. Whether we continue to follow up is entirely up to you, and whether you’d like us to keep checking in to provide advice to help you and your new Rescuoodle.

Though we strive to ensure that new adopters feel supported when adjusting to life with their animal companions, our support channels are always open to any animal lovers in need of assistance. From general over-the-phone advice to referrals to our behaviour or veterinary teams, we have plenty of options available to those in need of post-adoption support.

If you’d like some help with your animal companion and need to reach out to our teams, then feel free to contact us at (02) 9770 7555.

Every animal awaiting adoption with RSPCA NSW has received all necessary treatments and training prior to beginning their search for a home. Animals undergo a list of veterinary assessments and behavioural checks to ensure that no further procedures or rehabilitation is required, meaning our adopters can simply focus on starting a life with their animal companions.

As a charity, we use our adoption fees to help us recover a portion of these costs, so we can spend more of our resources on supporting people and pets in need.

Foster carers provide our wonderful animals with around-the-clock care and consideration, the kind of positive attention our shelters aren’t always able to provide. At any one time, animals in foster homes can account for up to 21% of all the animals in our care. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of more than 900 foster carers, we help thousands of animals:

  • Recover from surgery or illness in a stress-free, family environment
  • Care for their young ones and litters
  • Enjoy some solitude or time away from the bustle of the shelter environment

Moreover, foster care readies our animals for the dynamic of a stable home. The more we learn about their behaviour in a predictable family environment, the easier it is for our staff to ensure we find their perfect match!

With your support, we can give our animals a safe, temporary abode. As long as everyone in your household has agreed to foster caring, your circumstances will not prevent you from becoming a RSPCA NSW foster carer. All you need is an animal-friendly home, time, and love for your foster animals! With that in mind, it is essential that our carers:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Can provide a safe and secure environment to care for our foster animals
  • Can take their animals to a veterinary clinic if a medical emergency arises, noting that all medical expenses are covered by RSPCA NSW
  • Are willing and able to take their animals to any surgeries, vaccinations, or other appointments at our clinics and shelters
  • Ensure that all animals currently in their homes are fully vaccinated before welcoming another animal into their family

Our Foster Care team will provide our carers with supplies and veterinary support, ensuring you can focus on creating a safe and welcoming environment for your animals.
