Animal Welfare Footprint

At RSPCA NSW, protecting animals and preventing animal cruelty goes hand in hand with supporting people with their pets.

We’re focusing on strengthening and protecting the human and animal bond by making animal care equitable and accessible through a combination of outreach, education, advocacy, and enforcement. Our goal is to deliver meaningful support services that address the needs of both people and animals, keeping families together and preventing animal cruelty before it can occur.

We believe that supporting NSW communities means proactively giving them the tools to protect and care for our forever friends. With the help of our donors, volunteers, and partners, RSPCA NSW is shaping communities that love, respect, and safeguard all creatures, great and small.

The ‘One Welfare’ approach considers the mental, emotional, and physical health of both people and animals. This approach considers every dimension of human and animal health, including mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. In practice, is about fostering collaboration between human and animal health services. Only together can we nurture compassionate communities and improve the health and welfare of our animal companions.

One Welfare in Action

‘One Welfare’ is a natural extension of the concept of ‘One Health’, which recognises that human and animal health are not only interdependent but also bound to the health of the ecosystems in which we reside. In practice, ‘One Welfare’ calls for collaboration between human health services and animal welfare professionals in fields such as food safety, farming, and domestic and family violence.

Effective implementation of ‘One Welfare’ hinges on the collaboration of human and animal support services, and requires cooperation between experts in the following fields and beyond:

  • Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses
  • Animal Shelters
  • Impound Facilities
  • Social work agencies
  • Mental Health agencies and human health services
  • Government Departments
  • Local Councils
  • Domestic and Family Violence agencies and support services
  • First Nations Agencies and Services
  • Veteran Support Agencies
  • Aged Care support services and providers
  • Disability support services
  • Not for profit organisations
  • Universities

Why is ‘One Welfare’ important?

‘One Welfare’ is a natural extension of the concept of ‘One Health, which recognises that human and animal health are not only interdependent but also bound to the health of the ecosystems in which we reside. Social Impact

Our programs and outreach initiatives aim to keep people and animals together by strengthening the human and animal bond. By exploring values not traditionally expressed in impact reports and financial statements, we’re continually assessing the overall impact of our work.

Strategic Plan

With goals like improving access to veterinary care and increasing animal welfare education, RSPCA NSW’s three-year strategic plan represents our commitment to contribute our insight and experience to shape a brighter future for people and animals alike.

By addressing the needs of both people and animals, our support services help prevent cruelty before it can occur.
