About RSPCA NSW

We’re empowering NSW communities to respect and care for animals through education, advocacy, and support.

About RSPCA NSW

As the leading animal welfare organisation in NSW, we strive to ensure that animals can enjoy a good quality of life. In addition to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need, we aim to empower and educate communities and improve animal welfare legislation to strengthen, nurture, and protect the human and animal bond.

RSPCA NSW runs five shelters and adoption centres, two behaviour and rehabilitation centres, and three veterinary hospitals. Additionally, we are supported by more than 20 volunteer groups, all committed to running fundraising events and supporting our community outreach drives.

Our Inspectorate and outreach teams help both animals in need and pet owners seeking support. Through advocacy, education, enforcement, and targeted outreach support, we continuously strive to end animal cruelty and keep people and pets together.

At RSPCA NSW, we understand the role that people play in keeping animals healthy and safe. Like our generous donors, partners, and supporters, we know that animals bring so much joy to our communities, homes, and lives, which is why we strive to ensure that every animal receives protection and respect.

With an increasing number of hardships facing pet owners across NSW, the demand for hands-on support and accessible veterinary services continues to rise. That’s why our dedicated staff are focused on alleviating this burden and ensuring that animals receive the love, care, and attention they deserve.

We currently have 17 volunteer branches and eight community volunteer groups across NSW. In FY23-24, our incredible branches and supporter groups raised $141,000 for animals in need.

At any one time, animals in foster homes can account for up to 21% of all the animals in our care. Our devoted carers provide our animals with a chance to thrive outside our often-busy shelters, providing them with love, attention, and care as they await their forever home.

One Welfare

One Welfare’ is the concept that animal welfare depends on and influences human welfare and environmental sustainability. This approach considers mental and emotional health as well as physical health. In practice, this concept calls for veterinarians and related human and animal services to collaborate and share expertise to improve the welfare of our communities and our animal companions.

RSPCA NSW strives to protect and care for animals by empowering communities through education and support. We acknowledge the connection between human welfare, the health and wellbeing of our animals, and the impact of living creatures on each other and on our environment. This is why our support services strive towards holistic solutions that consider the needs of people and their pets.

Companion animals are integral parts of many families across NSW, but factors like a shortage of pet-friendly housing can result in an animal welfare emergency. Those experiencing challenging circumstances still want to care for their furry friends; that’s why RSPCA NSW is committed to protecting the human and animal bond.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adopt an animal from RSPCA NSW?

All RSPCA NSW shelters and rehabilitation centres support and facilitate animal adoptions. We help rehome a range of animals across NSW, including dogs, cats, horses, pocket pets, farm animals, and more! If you’re interested in meeting one of the animals currently available for adoption, locate your nearest RSPCA NSW shelter or contact our staff or volunteers.

Please note that although we update our online lists of available animals every day, there is a chance that an animal you are interested in will have found a home prior to your arrival at our facilities.

Any revenue made by our shelters, retail stores, and veterinary hospitals goes back to our organisation to be used to help animals in need. We use funds primarily to provide enrichment, nutrition, housing, and veterinary care for the animals who turn to our facilities for help.

We know that financial circumstances alone are not reflective a person’s capacity to love a companion animal, which is why we also allocate resources to keeping people and pets together. From community outreach assistance to emergency crisis support, our support services aim to ensure that pet owners can keep their animals healthy and safe.

RSPCA NSW is always looking to collaborate with likeminded ambassadors to achieve positive exposure for the animals in our care and to bring much-needed attention to animal welfare issues.

There are countless ways to get involved as an RSPCA NSW brand ambassador; we’d be delighted to work closely with you to develop a strategy that complements both your schedule and your passion for helping animals.

Thank you for your interest in making a difference in the lives of animals in need. For more information about becoming an RSPCA NSW ambassador, please contact the RSPCA NSW Communications Team at media@rspcansw.org.au. Please note that we vet all potential ambassadors to ensure their goals align with the primary values of our organisation.

Whether you’re looking to volunteer or adopt a new forever friend, there are so many ways for animal lovers to lend a hand.

If you’d like to open your heart and home to an adorable animal companion, we can help you find your new best friend at one of our shelters and adoption centres. RSPCA NSW rehomes a range of adorable animals, including cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more! Thanks to our partnership with Petbarn, you can also adopt our animals from select Petbarn Adoption Centres.

Becoming a foster carer is another rewarding way to help our animals. If you’re unsure about adopting but looking to personally assist our animals, become a foster carer to help give our animals the love and attention they deserve!

We also facilitate a range of volunteering opportunities, perfect for those currently unable to welcome an animal into their home. From joining our Emergency Response Team to assisting with animal transportation, there are so many ways you can help support communities and their pets. If you have a passion for animal welfare and enjoy meeting like-minded people, then consider becoming an RSPCA NSW volunteer! Whether you’re looking to volunteer at home or support our shelter animals directly, you’ll be making a difference in the lives of some of our state’s most vulnerable animals.

As a charity, we rely on a generous network of donors and supporters to provide any training, treatment, supplies, and rehabilitation our animals may require. If you’re currently unable to volunteer, you can still donate to provide essential care to animals seeking their forever home. Your contribution, no matter how small, can provide our animals with ongoing support, giving them a better chance at enjoying a good quality of life.
