Community Homelessness Program

Our Community Homelessness Support Program is currently unable to take on any additional clients. If you and your pet are in urgent need of help, please reach out to our Contact Centre at (02) 9770 7555 to discuss how we can help you find the support you need.

RSPCA NSW’s Homelessness Support Program assists people and pets experiencing homelessness or crises such as acute hospitalisations and natural disasters.

With over 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness on any given night, the barriers to seeking help can be significant. Many individuals choose to remain in unsafe situations rather than risk losing their pets, which can prolong their situation or further exacerbate feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression. Those facing mental health challenges can experience similar hardships by delaying help-seeking due to concern for their pet’s wellbeing. After all, pets provide essential comfort and support – even more so during challenging times – leading many pet owners to refuse even necessary treatment to remain with their pet.

Support and Services

RSPCA NSW’s Homelessness Support Program alleviates these burdens by providing people’s animal companions with safe accommodation and allowing owners to focus on their recovery, treatment, and safety. This program not only fosters improved outcomes for people’s health but also helps maintain the vital bond between them and their animal companions.

Services our Homelessness program offers include:

  • access to critical pet care supplies
  • financial assistance for veterinary treatment
  • financial assistance with impound fees

Social Return on Investment

Through our Social Return on Investment reports, we’ve measured values not typically explored in impact reports and financial statements. These include a range of different social, economic, and environmental factors.

As a charity, RSPCA NSW relies on donations, partnerships, and fundraising to drive change in our communities, provide treatment and shelter for animals, and offer relief and crisis support for people and pets in need. That’s why we’re excited to share our Homelessness Support SROI Report, which express the social return your investment in our programs has had!
